* Discuss class objectives and the differences between knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
* Consider options for teaching attitudes in the classroom.
* Discuss measurement of student's attitude by educators.
Topic Highlights
This class will look at the third domain of learning...attitude and how it is involved with education. Much of what we do is skills based whether it be introducing an advanced airway such as an endotracheal tube or placing a patient on a long spine board. A great deal of training also goes to knowledge based objectives where cardiac rhythms
are differentiated or the kinematics of trauma are explained, but how much time do we spend on attitudes?
In many classes, attitudes are the last part of our focus as educators, but bedside manner is sometimes credited by our patients as more important than our knowledge or skills. This is important because patients everyday complain about "those ambulance drivers" who don't seem to be worried about the person, just the monitors, gizzmos, and lights or sirens. This class will help us overcome the separation between knowledge/skills and the student's attitude.
