Start Your Engines: NASCAR and High Speed Medicine

Objectives
* Describe the kinematics of high speed trauma.
* Compare typical municipal EMS to NASCAR and IRL race week events from an operational standpoint.
* Discuss injuries affecting the brain and spinal column, their anatomy and physiology, and treatment measures.

Topic Highlights
NASCAR and IRL racing is one of the fastest growing sports in the world in part due to the popularity of premier drivers like Tony Stewart and Danica Patrick. The high speed nature of their business fits well with fire and EMS' high speed approach to significant injury and this class will provide an overview of race week events and discussion of some of the injury patterns that occur secondary to high speed collisions.

Audience/Track
This class is for any provider level.  ALS interventions and assessment techniques will be discussed but will not overwhelm the basic provider.
