Strike Three: Youth Sports Injuries

Objectives
* Discuss the rise of youth athletics.
* Review the basics of pediatric assessments.
* Discuss parental involvement in youth athletics.
* Discuss significant injuries to young athletes including contusions, muscle sprains/strains, Achilles tendon injuries, pitcher overuse, with special emphasis on concussions and commotio cordis.

Topic Highlights
America's past time was or is baseball and the game has gone on for parts of three centuries still popular among adults and children. Football, soccer, and cheerleading also take up enormous amount of time and energy as youth participation in all are on the ride and our children play these games harder than ever and have the injuries to show for it.

This presentation will cover the issues of sports related trauma, pitching injuries, and heat exposure. Special emphasis is places on both concussions and commotio cordis.
