Crash, Boom, Bang, Pow: Introduction to Tactical EMS

Objectives
* Discuss the history of Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS).
* Review topics covered by many TEMS programs.
* List issues associated with pre-incident planning including officer rehab and medical information and medical threat assessments.
* Review components of the incident including equipment selection, treatment across the barrier, and triage.
* List issues associated with post incident review and preparation for the next mission.

Topic Highlights
More and more police departments and emergency services organizations are approaching disasters with a multiagency response that includes tactical or emergency response teams that utilize a tactical police approach.  These tactical teams have tactical medical needs also and thus the SWAT, or tactical, medic has been born.

This lecture will introduce the concept of tactical EMS to the audience with a focus on contrasting care, skills, and approach from the street environment to the tactical environment.  This class is not intended to allow anyone to leave the audience ready to join a team, but rather, to set out some expectations for what operators accomplish as team members in less than perfect circumstances.  Good medicine can be brought to bad places and TEMS providers make up this bridge.

Full program training is available also and a short review can be found at Tactical EMS Provider.

Audience/Track
This class is for any EMS provider.
