Tales from the Darkside: Werewolves, Vampires, and Giants

Objectives
* Consider possible causes and provide medical theory for “monster myths.”
* Define the presentation, signs, and symptoms of atypical medical problems that affect blood disorders, skin irritations, and the pituitary glands.
* Discuss preconceived notions, EMS providers may hold towards certain members of our community.

Topic Highlights
Where do monsters come from? Is it possible that the supernatural isn’t that supernatural and just rare medical cases that our ancestors misdiagnosed? This presentation covers several different disease processes that have been theorized to cause patients to suffer signs and symptoms much like the Halloween myths of Medieval lore.

“Monsters” discussed in this program include vampires, werewolves, giants, hunchbacks, mermaids, zombies, and gnomes.

Your students will quickly be interested in these topics, especially during the early-middle Fall months of September through November.

Audience/Track
This class is for any EMS provider.
